Fantasy Football Tight End Draft Guide 2017

Fantasy Football Tight End Draft Guide 2016

We know the names up top at TE, and we know there’s a surge of talent from this year’s draft class. We’re headed back to a league with a bunch of TE talent. This year, well it’s still a bit top heavy. My top 2 tiers are all names we’ve known for years. And as we work our way down there aren’t too many surprises. TE is boring and stable on the surface with injury questions rotting the interior.

Player (Team | My Pos. Rank | Overall ADP | Positional ADP | Difference)

Elite Tier

Rob Gronkowski(NE | 1 |18 | 1 | 0)                Travis Kelce (KC | 2 | 31 | 2 | 0)

Jordan Reed(WAS | 3 | 38 | 3 | 0)                   Greg Olsen (CAR | 4 | 40 | 4 | 0)

Very Good Tier

Jimmy Graham (SEA | 5 | 59 | 5 | 0), Delanie Walker (TEN | 6 | 73 | 7 | -1), Tyler Eifert (CIN | 7 | 70 | 6 | +1)

Kyle Rudolph (MIN | 8 | 79 | 8 | 0), Martellus Bennett (GB | 9 | 90 | 9 | 0)

Much like WR, there is literally nothing to see here. I have Eifert and Walker flip flopped from ADP, but that’s the only difference in my top 9 and ADP…

The Land of Upside and Questions Tier

Jack Doyle (IND | 10 | 125 | 13 | -3), Zach Ertz (PHI | 11 | 92 | 20 | +1)

Eric Ebron (DET | 12 | 120 | 12 | 0), Jason Witten (DAL| 13 | 137 | 14 | +1)

Someone in this Tier is Going to Go Off This Season

Charles Clay (BUF | 14 | 194 | 125 | -11), Hunter Henry (LAC | 15 | 95 | 11 | +4), Coby Fleener (16 | NO | 143 | 16 | 0)

Dwayne Allen (NE | 17 | 210 | 26 | -9), Cameron Brate (TB | 18 | 153 | 19 |-1), Antonio Gates (LAC | 19 | 167 | 21 | -2)

Austin Hooper (ATL | 20 | 149 | 17 | +3), Julius Thomas (MIA | 21 | 151 | 18 | +3)

In fact that trend continues into tier 3 where I’m higher on Jack Doyle than ADP, but don’t have a major disagreement until I get to Charles Clay at 14. Clay and Boldin are the only receiving options in Buffalo we have any real concept of. I don’t think Clay will be a fantasy starter, but a useful option with starter upside shouldn’t be outside of the TE2 range. That’s really the only major difference between me and ADP in my top four tiers.

Bottom of the Useable Barrel Tier

David Njoku (CLE | 22 | 172 | 22 | 0), Vance McDonald (SF | 23 | 260 | 33 | -10), Jesse James (PIT | 24 | 220 | 27 | -3)

Zach Miller (CHI | 25 | 224 | 28 | -3), O.J. Howard (TB | 26 | 141 | 15 | +11), Evan Engram (NYG | 27 | 164 | 20 | +7)

Erik Swoope (IND | 28 | 234 | 30 | -2), Ben Watson (BAL | 29 | 253 | 32 | -3), Richard Rodgers (GB | 30 | 262 | 35 | -5)

C.J. Fiedorowicz (HOU | 31 | 182 | 23 | +8), Jared Cook (OAK | 32 | 189 | 24 | +8)

Virgil Green (DEN | 33 | 262 | 35 | -2), Austin Seferian-Jenkins (NYJ | 34 | 230 | 29 | +5)

And that’s about it really for TEs. I wish there was more here, but even McDonald and Howard are TE2/3s that aren’t that big of differences for a position where you’re going to be roster 1 player most of the time. I agree with the general consensus and that makes me extremely uncomfortable. That said, I’m not going to change my rankings because I don’t like agreeing with everyone. So if you have a favorite that’s lower in my ranks or by ADP. Wait, take them and get higher talent elsewhere. I’ll be waiting and seeing where the value falls in drafts I’m in and I suggest you do the same.
