i (2)Los Angeles Angels vs. Marco Gonzales

The Angels take on the Mariners on Friday night in the second game of a four game series. This is actually one of the more interesting series in baseball this weekend, as the Mariners have taken the lead in the race for the second wild card. The Angels, despite all their pitching problems, are only two games out of the playoffs right now.  And I know Angel fans think of they could just get there, that Mike Trout could carry them for a series or two.  This series could go a long way in determining if they are going to be around come September and October. Marco Gonzales gets the call on Friday for the Mariners, and he’ll be making only his second start of the year and the ninth of his brief career.  He is in his second year and his career ERA is over six, which is actually an improvement over how he has been this year.  In his two starts, he’s allowed five earned runs in each and his ERA is 11.25.

Players to Consider:

Mike Trout 5100 (FD) 5700 (DK)

Albert Pujols 2600 (FD) 3300 (DK)

Andrelton Simmons 3200 (FD) 4100 (DK)

Cameron Maybin 2200 (FD) 3500 (DK)

i (16)Houston Astros vs. Cole Hamels

Cole Hamels makes his 14th start of the season for the Rangers. He missed nearly two months earlier this season with a strained oblique. Hamels is 6-1 with a 3.59 ERA, a 1.066 WHIP, 24 walks and 53 strikeouts over 85.1 innings of work. He won his last start, which was Saturday on the road against the Twins. Hamels tossed a complete game as he allowed one run (none earned) on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts in a 4-1 Rangers victory. He is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP, four walks and 17 strikeouts over 21 innings in his last three starts. Hamels is 6-3 with a 4.06 ERA and a 1.204 WHIP over 93 innings in 14 career starts against the Astros. He is 14-2 with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.246 WHIP over 191 innings in his 29 career starts at Globe Life Park.

Players to Consider:

Yulieski Gurriel 3500 (FD) 4700 (DK)

Alex Bregman 4000 (FD) 4700 (DK)

Jose Altuve 4100 (FD) 5400 (DK)

Marwin Gonzalez 3500 (FD) 4700 (DK)

San Francisco Giants vs. Edwin Jackson

Edwin Jackson will make his eighth appearance and fifth start of the season, aiming for his third win. Jackson conceded four runs in five innings to the Cubs in his previous start, and was charged with the loss. The veteran right-hander has pitched well through four starts with the Nationals this season, and owns a 4.34 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP to go with a 2-2 record in 29 innings pitched. He has had trouble with the Giants in his career, posting an ugly 5.03 ERA with a 4-4 record in 11 career starts. Hunter Pence is 5 for 20 against Jackson, while Buster Posey is 1 for 15, and Brandon Crawford is 3 for 11. Stratton has been shaky this season, conceding 15 runs in his 19 innings pitched to go with 12 walks, so I expect the Nationals to put some crooked numbers on the board. Furthermore, Edwin Jackson owns a poor 5.03 ERA against the Giants and right now the Giants are swinging the bats much better, averaging 5.1 runs over their last ten games. This might be a high scoring game.

Players to Consider:

Denard Span 3000 (FD) 3400 (DK)

Buster Posey 3300 (FD) 3800 (DK)

Joe Panik 2700 (FD) 3100 (DK)

Jarrett Parker 2500 (FD) 3200 (DK)

i (20)Detroit Tigers vs. EKyle Gibson

Taking the hill for the Twins in this one will be Kyle Gibson and he has gone 6-9 with a 6.03 ERA in 19 starts on the year, including 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA in his last three starts and 3-3 with a 5.31 ERA in eight starts on the road. Gibson has gone 5-7 with a 5.87 ERA in 23 career starts during the month of August and he is 5-7 with a 5.65 ERA in 13 career starts against the Tigers, including 2-4 with a 5.08 ERA in seven starts here at Comerica. The Tigers have been a good offensive team so far as they come in ranked 9th in the league in scoring, putting up 4.80 rpg, while also ranking 12th in hitting at .258 and 22nd in homers with 131. On the mound they have been poor so far this year as they come in ranked 27th in the league in ERA at 4.89, while also ranking 26th in WHIP at 1.42.

Players to Consider:

Ian Kinsler 3700 (FD) 4200 (DK)

Jim Adduci 2400 (FD) 2800 (DK)

Justin Upton 3800 (FD) 4700 (DK)

Miguel Cabrera 3400 (FD) 3600 (DK)

i (8)Minnesota Twins vs. Anibal Sanchez

Toeing the rubber for the Tigers in this one will be Anibal Sanchez and he has gone 3-2 with a 7.14 ERA in 20 games overall, including 3-2 with a 5.59 ERA in nine games as a starter. Sanchez is 16-18 with a 4.07 ERA in 48 starts during the month of August and he is 27-21 with a 4.13 ERA in 75 games (64 starts) here at Comerica, while against the Twins he has gone 6-4 with a 3.71 ERA in 21 games (17 starts). The Twins have been a below average offensive team so far as they come in ranked 19th in the league in scoring, putting up 4.55 rpg, while also ranking 18th in hitting at .250 and 23rd in homers with 125. On the mound they have been poor so far as they come in ranked 26th in the league in ERA at 4.73, while also ranking 25th in WHIP at 1.41.

Players to Consider:

Brian Dozier 4100 (FD) 4600 (DK)

Miguel Sano 3700 (FD) 4300 (DK)

Robbie Grossman 2800 (FD) 3400 (DK)

Eddie Rosario 3300 (FD) 4200 (DK)
