Pitchers

be790f8a_mlbamChris Sale BOS @ TAM FD $11,400 DK $12,600

Taking the mound for the Red Sox in this one will be Chris Sale and he has gone 13-4 with a 2.70 ERA in 22 starts on the year, including 2-0 with a 3.50 ERA in his last three starts and 7-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 12 starts on the road. Sale has gone 12-11 with a 4.24 ERA in 47 games (29 starts) during the month of August and he is 6-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) against the Rays, including 2-3 with a 2.11 ERA in six games (five starts) here at the Trop. The Red Sox have been a solid offensive team so far as they come in ranked 10th in the league in scoring, putting up 4.76 rpg, while also ranking 5th in hitting at .263 and 27th in homers with 116. On the mound they have been very strong so far as they come in ranked 3rd in the league in ERA at 3.71, while also ranking 4th in WHIP at 1.25. The Boston Red Sox are really playing well at the moment and they have their ace on the mound for this one, but Chris Sale is just 2-3 here at the Trop in his career and Tampa Bay is desperate to stay in the race for the divisional title or a wildcard berth. Still, the Rays have averaged just 2.00 rpg in their last five games and Chris Sale has gone 7-3 with a 2.60 ERA on the road and he does have a 2.11 ERA in this park. Austin Pruitt has been solid in his three starts, but the Red Sox offense has been very good of late and should be able to tag him for a few. Look for the Red Sox to take game one behind the better starter in Chris Sale and the better offense.

Corey Kluber CLE vs. COL FD $11,700 DK $12,400

Corey Kluber will take the mound for the 19th time of the season, hunting for his second straight victory. Kluber was brilliant in his previous performance, tossing a one run complete game against the Yankees, and notched the win to bring his record to 9-3. The Indians ace is having the best season of his career, boasting a stifling 2.77 ERA and a minuscule 0.95 WHIP in 123.2 innings of work. He held the Rockies to two runs in 7.1 innings in his lone career start against them back in 2014. Kluber ranks fourth in the Majors with 172 strikeouts on the season. The Indians are currently scoring an average of 4.86 runs per game, ranking them eighth overall, and are hitting .261 as a team. The Cleveland pitching is their greatest strength, sporting a 3.77 team ERA, good for fourth in the Majors. Kluber continues to dazzle on the mound, sporting a minuscule 1.60 ERA over his last nine starts, and he features a 2.22 ERA with a .187 opponent batting average at home this season, so he should slow down the Rockies bats.

CC Sabathia NYY @ TOR FD $6,600 DK $6,600

Toeing the rubber for the Yankees in this one will be C.C. Sabathia and he has gone 9-4 with a 3.81 ERA in 18 starts on the year, including 1-1 with a 5.28 ERA in his last three starts and 6-2 with a 2.29 ERA in 10 starts on the road. Sabathia has gone 49-20 with a 3.60 ERA in 85 career starts in August and he is 16-10 with a 3.61 ERA in 29 career starts against the Blue Jays, including 8-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 13 starts here at the Rogers Centre. The Yankees have been a strong offensive team so far as they come in ranked 4th in the league in scoring, putting up 5.21 rpg, while also ranking 9th in hitting at .260 and 9th in homers with 159. On the mound they have been very solid as well as they come in ranked 6th in the league in ERA at 3.78, while also ranking 3rd in WHIP at 1.22. The Yankees are looking to close ground on the Red Sox in the American League East, while the Blue Jays are looking to keep their wildcard hopes alive. This is a huge game for both teams and in game one I will have to give the Yankees the edge. C.C. Sabathia has been solid for them this year, especially on the road where he has gone 6-2 with a 2.29 ERA in 10 starts, plus he has gone 8-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 13 career starts here at the Rogers Centre. J.A. Happ is just 1-2 with a 5.21 ERA in his last three starts and 1-5 with a 4.25 ERA here at home. He is 7-2 with a 2.62 ERA in 15 career starts against the Yankees, but I feel that the Yanks will be able to get to him some in this game. New York is the better team with the better starter and the better offense and they will find a way to win this one.
